Cobblestone Village Learning Center – After School and Beyond

$25,000 will assist students through an after school homework assistance program that not only helps students understand their homework, but helps them apply it to their daily lives.
Funds from the Escondido Charitable Foundation grant will be used to a) enhance the program with updated computers, furnishings, recreation equipment and library materials, and b) strengthen the program’s academic component by purchasing the Voyager VMath Curriculum. The “After School and Beyond” program serves kids where they live and this is of extreme importance to parents who cannot transport their children to other after school programs. The Cobblestone Village Learning Center is located at the center of the 44-unit Cobblestone Village low income affordable apartment community. Each day, students receive homework assistance, literacy tutoring, a nutritious snack, recreation opportunities and life skills training. In addition, the learning center is equipped with computers and internet connections which students use to support their academics and provide an incentive for good behavior and academic improvement. This no-cost, five day-a-week program provides working parents peace of mind and children a safe place to meet their academic, social and emotional needs. Support from the Escondido Charitable Foundation will provide equipment and curriculum which will benefit the program for years to come.
