Orange Place Learning Communities After School Homework Club

$20,000 will expand the After-School Program hours for disadvantaged youngsters who live in the Orange Place affordable housing complex and its surrounding neighborhoods.
This program will enhance the educational outcomes and decrease the digital divide for marginalized school-aged children who will receive homework assistance, language skill training, and access to computers and the Internet. This will, in turn, lead to improved English-language skills, achievement of grade level performance, the opportunity to be recognized for their accomplishments in front of their peers and family, and encouragement and incentives to go on to higher education. In addition to the extra academic help that the youth will receive “in their own community where they live,” it is a safe place to meet their social and emotional needs as well as giving working parents peace of mind. Support from the Escondido Charitable Foundation will allow this program to expand from two days per week to four.
