Purpose and Vision
Our Purpose is to
- Meet emerging needs by encouraging and increasing responsible and effective philanthropy by and for the benefit of all who live, work and play in Escondido
- Build an Escondido community endowment
- Provide funding annually to Escondido organizations and causes
- Give Escondido community members a vehicle for legacy planning and gifts that will benefit Escondido now and forever
Structure
- Individuals and businesses can become members of The Escondido Charitable Foundation by making a donation of at least $1,000
- Members who commit at least $1,000 per year for five years will be designated “benefactors”
- Half of the money goes immediately into annual grant making
- Half goes into a permanent endowment
- All paid members vote each year for the local grant applications they deem most worthy and most needed
Our 2007 Accomplishments
- Raised $667,000 in contributions and commitments for the benefit of Escondido charitable causes over the next 5 years.
- Created a long-term Community Endowment of $115,000.
- Secured matching funds totaling $60,000 from the City of Escondido, the Escondido Rotary Foundation and County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price.
- Made $90,000 in grants (each a minimum of $20,000) to deserving Escondido organizations and programs in the area of:
Youth Education and/or Youth Services
- Recruited 117 members including 100 Founders who have committed to a minimum of $1,000 per year for 5 Years
- Served as a catalyst and covener for after the fire recovery efforts following the Witch Creek Fire of 2007 by creating the Escondido After-the-Fires Fund 2007.
